Last day at Oropi - 24.02.17

Today we had to say goodbye to our Korean international students. We worked on their speeches before they all read them out at our whole school assembly. They all did such an amazing job reading their speeches.

We also made pancakes this morning get which they all enjoyed. They put bananas, blueberries and lemon on them. Yum yum.

I have enjoyed my time with the students and I wish them well and safe travels back to Korea. We hope they come back to Oropi school again 😊

Mount Maunganui day out - 23.02.17

Today we took 5 students for a walk around the base of Mount Maunganui.  The children stopped off half way to have a swim on the beach 😊 The weather was amazing!
After our walk we were treated to an ice cream 😉
Then we had time to relax and swim and play in beach, before going to the park to enjoy fish and chips!! Yum yum.

Kiwi arts day - 21 Feb 2017

Today I had the boys making kiwi hand puppets.  Firstly they cut out the shapes from felt. We then hot glued them together as well as the wings, legs and beak.  This was a great activity that they all enjoyed.

After morning tea I did some reading and high frequency words with Junhee.  Then I did some writing with Jisang about "If I had animal feet".  Junwoo- we did a graph on "favourite animals. They have all done so well settling into school. Well done boys!

All about me - 17.02.17

Today we did "All about Me". We started by writing about what our hobbies were, earliest memories, what makes us laugh and a fun fact about ourselves.

The children then published it on the computers and printed them out!

Te Puia day out in Rotorua - 16.02.17

Today we went to Rotorua to visit Te Puia. We saw geysers and boiling mud! Kids loved it. Then we had a cultural show where the were treated to the "haka".

The children did extremely well considering the rain all day. We even saw them putting down a "hangi" (food cooked in the ground.

Great day had by all.

Ddeokbokki cooking class

Today we broke up into two groups - girls and boys. They each made their favourite dish from Korea Ddeokbokki.
This was such an amazing experience to share with them.  They said our version was not spicy!





Afterwards we played some games like "Guess Who" and "Bingo".

Today we did some arts and crafts this morning. We made some 3D forest animals.





Yusu did some swimming lessons with some of her classmates.

The other children enjoyed some class time with the room.

Fun day out - 09.02.17

Today we took the children to the Elizabeth Street community centre to do a ceramic art piece. They painted their own ceramic which will be kiln dry and then they can hang it on the wall. All the children were very creative with their pieces!

Next it was off to Memorial Park to have a play on the swings and flying fox.

During lunch we had a game of ten pin bowling! This caused lots of laughs and all the children had a great time.

Second day of school 08.02.17

We enjoyed a full day of school today. We had a group session were we learnt about our houses and our families! We had lots of laughs.
We also met our school cat. The children enjoyed patting him.
Then we had a few games outside including ripped rugby, egg and spoon races, and soccer.
The afternoon was spent in class surrounding ourselves with our new kiwi classmates.

Korean international students

Our 4 short term international students arrived today. We welcomed them with a morning tea. They were buddies up and shown around the school.

The students all had a great day settling into their classrooms and being apart of a New Zealand school.

Korean students coming......

We are looking forward to welcoming our group of Korean students to Oropi school on Tuesday 7th February 2017.  They will be joining us for three weeks where they will be experiencing a New Zealand school and culture.  We wish them a safe journey to New Zealand and look forward to meeting them all on Tuesday.
